About EWBEWB@WSU is a registered student organization at Washington State University created in September of 2004 by then mechanical engineering and political science sophomore Alex McDonald. We are an official member of Engineers Without Borders - USA. EWB@WSU monetary donations are managed through EWB-USA is a non-profit 501(c)(3) tax exempt corporation created under the laws of the State of Colorado, USA. EWB-USA was created in fall 2000 by Professor Bernard Amadei at the University of Colorado - Boulder, and is part of an international network that works with developing communities in resolving particular community identified infrastructure needs. Engineers Without Borders is:
![]() EWB@WSU involves students in every step of the process, enabling them to learn firsthand about the application of engineering solutions to the problems of sustainable development worldwide. EWB@WSU works on small-scale local, national, and international projects and provides internship opportunities with EWB-USA. Our projects involve the design and construction of water, waste-water, sanitation, energy, and shelter systems. These projects are initiated by, and completed with, local materials and contributions from the host community, which is trained to operate the systems without external assistance. In this way, EWB@WSU ensures that its projects are appropriate and self-sustaining. The projects are conducted by groups of students under the supervision of faculty and professional engineers from partnering engineering firms. By involving students in every step of the EWB@WSU process, the program maximizes their learning and awareness of the social, economic, environmental, political, ethical, and cultural impacts of engineering projects. |
